A brief encounter
This is my first encounter with animals that I ever hoped to see in my life, and it was someone that created this opportunity for me. May be seeing this animal is a common thing but this animal saved us from danger.
The ocean is full of marine lives and danger as well. Even so, Cyrus and I loved the ocean as part of us. We loved to sail and surf. We did not know why we are attracted to the blue water so much. May be because of the stories that we have read in the story books and not many people understand the world of underwater.
Both of us were lying on the velvety golden, watching the sun rise. The arrows of light brightened up the cobalt sky and soon, waves were dancing at our feet. We felt the soft breeze washed over our face and lushes of waves cooling our legs. The golden sand seemed to be more dazzling with the beautiful light shining on it. It was the most relaxing time that I ever have since I was born as a city girl.
As for Cyrus, he was the son of a millionaire. His butler, Robert, came and gave Cyrus the key to drive a boat. He pulled my arm and suggested that we should see dolphins as he did not want to waste our summer vacation in his own island. He and I abroad his personal boat and he drove out to the sea. I bid farewell to the land and I saw endless of azure horizon.
“Hey Anna, look, dolphins!” He pointed to my right.
I turned and saw majestic yet playful dolphins dancing in the water. There was even one getting closed to the boat. I bent down to it and touched its snout. It did not bite and it seemed to trust me. Cyrus stood beside me and touched the cute animal’s snout. Both of us smiled and the dolphin started to play tricks for us.
We sat on the boat and I took photos of the family of the dolphin. They were performing for us. It was like all happening just for me and Cyrus… I felt a hand was on mine and it was Cyrus. I blushed and looked away from him. I stood on the boat and tried to ignore him.
“Anna, look out!” I heard he shouted as the boat rocked roughly.
I plunged into the deep azure graveyard. Bubbles appeared and disappeared again. I was trying not to open my mouth as I did not want to be drowned. I quickly swim myself up and shot out of the surface. I took a deep breath and there were sharks around me.
“Anna! I’m coming!” I heard Cyrus yelled anxiously.
“No, you’ll die!” I called back as I did not want my best friend to die.
The sharks were approaching closer and closer. I knew this was my end. I did not want to die here. I felt a little nibble on my thigh. It was not painful, but I knew that was the signal that the sharks ‘tasted’ me. I have to stay calm yet I could not. Adrenaline rushed through my body as the sharks were getting closer and closer.
‘Will I die here…?’
If I am lucky enough, I might just lose one leg or arm, if not…That would be the end of me. All of the suddenly, I saw something slammed the sharks aside. It was the dolphin from before. It was trying to save me. Bubbles floated to the surface as the dolphin’s family saving me from death. I quickly swim to the boat where Cyrus is.
He jumped into the water and grabbed my hand. Both of us swim back to the boat yet there was more to it. Some of the sharks were ‘guarding’ the boat and we were surrounded by them. We heard a call from the dolphins and they were dashing towards the sharks. There was an opportunity for us to escape.
Cyrus grabbed me and swum back to the boat. He started up the engine but I was worried about the dolphins. After thirty minutes of driving the boat, we reached the shore and we just collapsed on to the sand. Both of us were still being traumatized by the event we just been through.
I looked back to the sea and there was no sign of the dolphin that saved our lives. May be it had defeated the sharks and went away with its family. I scanned the ocean thoroughly yet there was no sign of it. I hoped that the dolphin was safe from harm.
Cyrus and I were the sole survivors.
